Ahn Do-geol Rejects ‘National Dividend’ Criticism, Calls Chip Tax Revenue a Future Strategy
Published: · Source: mk.co.kr

Rep. Ahn Do-geol pushed back against controversy over presidential policy chief Kim Yong-beom’s so-called “national dividend” remarks, saying it is an unfair attack to label the use of excess tax revenue from AI and semiconductors as socialism. Ahn said the discussion is not about forcing companies to pay dividends, but about opening public debate on how excess gains from the semiconductor industry and related tax revenue should be used for national future strategy. He argued that Korea should approach the issue from the perspective of building national assets, similar to Norway’s sovereign wealth fund, and said future planning should take priority over unproductive ideological attacks. The debate is expected to continue in politics over how semiconductor excess gains and fiscal resources should be used. Source: mk.co.kr
