Foreign Omnibus Accounts Open Korean Stocks to U.S. Retail Investors
Published: · Source: mk.co.kr

Samsung Securities has begun rolling out a service based on foreign omnibus accounts in partnership with U.S.-based Interactive Brokers (IBKR). The move enables retail investors in the United States and other overseas markets to directly trade Korean shares such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix through their local brokerage apps. The foreign omnibus account system is designed to improve overseas investors’ access to the Korean stock market, with expectations that more individual investment money could flow into Korea. Market watchers say easier Korean stock trading may increase overseas retail participation and have a positive effect on discussions about Korea’s inclusion in the MSCI developed market index.
