Jindo County in South Jeolla Province is introducing blockchain technology to manage the pedigrees of Jindo dogs, a national Natural Monument. According to industry sources on May 12, the county will begin developing a “blockchain-based Jindo dog pedigree certification management system” this month, complete development by October and put it into operation before the end of the year. The core of the project is a blockchain-based decentralized identity, or DID, system that manages and tracks pedigrees. Jindo County plans to use DID to issue mobile pedigree certificates and provide a form of mobile ID to about 1,100 Jindo dogs designated as Natural Monuments after pedigree reviews. Pedigree certification using implanted RFID devices will also be digitalized. The county expects the system to improve transparency and accuracy by tracking birth, growth, health status and distribution records. Source: hankyung.com
