Kyocera R&D Chief Says Japan’s Manufacturing Edge Is Integration
Published: · Source: mk.co.kr

Shoichi Nakagawa, head of Kyocera’s research and development division, said in an interview with Maeil Business last month that the competitiveness of Japanese manufacturing lies in “suriawase,” meaning adjustment and integration. He explained that even as industrial structures change rapidly, technologies and people accumulated on the factory floor remain the foundation of competitiveness. Nakagawa, who leads Kyocera’s R&D, also stressed an attitude of “taking on what everyone says cannot be done.” The comment points to a way of responding to change by combining field experience and technology.
